Life is finite and irreplaceable, such that every second is worth more than all the wealth imaginable. Time is the key to creation. Time-wasting is a grave mistake.
Time-well-spent is the antithesis of time-wasted, and sacredness differentiates the two. A sacred moment is a bit of life well spent. Forgoing that sacredness squanders the moment, leaving one closer to death with no reward.
Time-Wasting Brings Poverty and Unhappiness
Contrary to the prevailing wisdom, slogging through difficult labor, learning, or professional tasks brings only meager returns on time invested. Lack of consciousness inherent in this mode of thought causes you to:
- Make more errors, necessitating more attention spent later either fixing or suffering the consequences of needless mistakes
- Lack of perspective, causing one to miss time-saving shortcuts and to fall into traps missed by the more cognizant
- Muffle the divine spark, which is that childlike sense of wonder and well-being, the lack of which makes one dull and their work lacks that special something
Work produced under such circumstances may produce monetary returns, praise, and even recognition in some circumstances. But such rewards are never a fair return for the time invested. And the quality of work always falls short of the best you could have done.
What’s worse is that time-wasting engenders even more time-wasting. Revisiting work to correct errors, missing out on massive time saves, and a steady reduction in energy begins a cycle of dreary obligation where more and more time is wasted until all hope of spending time wisely has vanished.
The farther you find yourself from consciousness, the deeper into the trap you are.
What Makes Time Sacred
Intense consciousness makes a moment sacred, consciousness being the portal to the divine.
The particular activity, or lack of activity, of a moment makes no difference, except as it affects one’s grasp on consciousness.
A minute observing a beautiful sunset may be time-wasted, or it may be time-well-spent. An hour hard at work may also be a waste if consciousness is neglected, no matter the material reward. Although, time wasted rarely nets as much profit as time well spent.
